Awards

The Pipe Line Contractors Association of Canada allocates awards in the fall of each year to a son or daughter of parents or guardians who derive their principal income from pipeline construction.

The PLCAC Student Awards program works to assist students entering post-secondary education programs or continuing in their post-secondary education.

The program, established in 1974, has assisted more than 500 students.

To Qualify

An applicant must be a son, daughter or ward of a person whose principal income is derived from the pipeline construction industry.

The parent or guardian of the applicant must be employed by or have a history of employment with a company that is a member of the Pipe Line Contractors Association of Canada.

The applicant must provide proof of full-time enrolment in a program in post-secondary education. Applications received from students enrolled in post-graduate programs may also be considered.

Application Process

The application for the 2026-2027 program will open on September 17, 2026.

Oil and Gas Engineering Program Award

In 2026, the Pipe Line Contractors Association of Canada introduced the Oil & Gas Engineering Award in sponsorship from our Associate Member, SMS Equipment Inc.

This scholarship was open to students at the University of Calgary’s Oil & Gas Engineering as an investment in the next generation of engineers who are essential in continuing to build and maintain critical energy infrastructure and technology for decades to come.

We congratulate Kale Poloprutsky and Gianluca Frustaci on winning this award.

The Verne Stevenson Memorial Scholarship Award honours a student who is not only committed to their studies but also actively engages in initiatives that positively impact their community. This award recognizes a student who is well on their way to becoming a community leader.

The 2025-2026 Verne Stevenson Memorial Award winner is Madyson Campbell, the daughter of Colin Campbell, Summit Pipeline Services ULC.

Madyson is a medical student at the NOSM University in Thunder Bay, ON. She is a Metis woman with Metis roots in the Red River Settlement. She has served as the Region 2 Representative on the Metis Nation of Ontario Youth Council for the past 6 years. She is passionate about health equity and improving health outcomes within her community. She is involved in several different research initiatives related to youth mental health, Indigenous health and substance use disorders.

Moreover, she is a part-time research student at ICES, working on several projects related to the health of the Metis population in Ontario. Furthermore, she is the co-founder and co-president of the Thunder Bay Free Store, a local initiative established in 2020 that provides essential items to community members in need.

Leo Ziehr Future Leader Award

During the 2026 PLCAC Convention in Maui, HI, the award was presented to Evan Barroso from Aecon. Evan has demonstrated exceptional leadership, composure, and sound judgement in managing complex technical challenges. The PLCAC is confident that Evan will continue to grow and become a highly significant leader in the operation of Aecon projects.

Safety Awards Program

(James L. Abraham Safety Performance Awards of Excellence)

The PLCAC recognizes member companies who have distinguished themselves with exemplary safety performance and safety records through the James L. Abraham Safety Performance Award of Excellence program. These awards are based on lowest lost time incidents (LTI) frequency rates. The winners for the 2025 year were announced at the 2026 convention in Maui, Hawaii.
